Bushnell Neo Plus Golf GPS Review

It is nothing short of amazing that you get so much from something so little. When presented with the idea of having to use a GPS rangefinder, many golfers tend to be daunted (yes, even the “veterans”). This is because most of these devices tend to look complex and hard to operate. Many also fall for the “the bigger, the better” school of thinking when it comes to tools such as these. Therefore, it is always a good thing to prove that wrong, and the Bushnell Neo Plus Golf GPS does that beautifully.

This portable GPS device already comes preloaded with over 25,000 golf course maps. That means it can be used right out of the box. There is no longer a need for external downloads and setting configurations to get it up and running. Even installing the driver software on your PC is very simple since the installation CD is already included in the box. Just register on Bushnell’s website, install the software (in the CD included in the box), and you can download courses to your PC and transfer or “sync” them to the device. Assuming, of course, that the more than 25,000 courses preloaded in the device are not enough.

With such a big number of courses already contained in this device, it easily finds the specific course you have in mind and loads it effortlessly. In some cases, the Bushnell Neo may not find a couple of courses here and there, but that is probably because the unavailable courses are some of the newer ones. This device makes use of the iGolf database; so once the database is updated, so will the courses on the Neo Plus. In order to have unlimited access to the course database of Bushnell, however, you have to pay an annual subscription fee of $34.99.

Some GPS rangefinders reveal only distances to the front, middle and back of the green. That is not a limitation for the Bushnell Neo Plus, since it also provides distances up to 4 targets. In a way, this could also be a disadvantage, since it usually maps less than 4 targets and hazards at one time.

But it more than makes up for that shortcoming by allowing custom mapping, where users can customize a map of an existing course. Or, better yet, create a new course map. There is also the shot calculator, which lets users track how far their shots go. It would have been a good idea to have a feature that also lets it track stats or the golfer’s scores, but that is not something the Neo Plus is configured to do.

The Bushnell Neo Plus is very simple and easy to use. There are no complicated operating directions, since it only has a single button to get it powered on and working. The six small rubber buttons sit in a row on the bottom part of the device, each with its own specific functions. The buttons are placed tightly together in a small area, so golfers with wide fingers may have a little difficulty dealing with them.

Portability is another feature that is remarkably present in the Bushnell Neo+ Golf GPS Rangefinder. It is so small – it’s the size of a credit card, only thicker – it can fit in your back pocket. It is also very lightweight, weighing only 3.1 ounces. It also ranks high when it comes to durability, and the fact that is waterproof means that it can be used without any problems even under the rain.

The screen display is quite small, which is not surprising, really, considering how compact the Bushnell Neo Plus is. However, that can be forgiven since the font size appearing on the display is large and clear. Despite the fact that the display is in black and white instead of full color, it registers well on the brightness front, allowing golfers to read the information in any lighting condition. Of course, it is also possible to adjust the contrast of the screen, depending on what you are comfortable with.

Using this GPS rangefinder, golfers can expect up to 16 hours of continuous battery life. Avid golfers can then comfortably use it in multiple rounds on the course before they have to recharge it.

Let’s talk about another important point when it comes to GPS rangefinders: accuracy. Most users found that the Bushnell Neo+ Golf GPS Rangefinder performs with accuracy, with a discrepancy of 4 yards, give or take. That is already an acceptable range, especially when compared to other simple devices.

The Bushnell Neo Plus allows golfers to reap the benefits of a highly functional and accurate GPS device without breaking the bank. In fact, it is one of the least expensive units of its kind available in the market today. This guarantees that users who decide on this nifty little device get amazing value for their money.

Should You Buy The Bushnell NEO Plus

For those who are looking for a no-nonsense, no-frills and straightforward golf GPS device, the Bushnell Neo+ Golf GPS Rangefinder is a must-have. It doesn’t hurt that it is very affordable as well.
